Michael’s Marathon Run
Our business development manager Michael Louth completed the 39th Virgin London Marathon yesterday, despite never being a runner before!
Now that our Demolition division are members of the NFDC (National Federation of Demolition Contractors), Michael chose to support the organisation by running the marathon to raise money for The Snowdon Trust, an NFDC chosen charity. The Snowdown Trust provides grants to physically disabled and sensory impaired students studying in the UK.
As part of the agreement to run the marathon, Michael had to raise a minimum of £2,000 which he is hoping to surpass with donations still coming through, in order to help the charity and its continued good work.
Michael’s training has been a big change to his regular routine, with 4am runs before work on a Tuesday and Thursday and then again over on the weekends.
Speaking before the marathon, Michael said: “I have found the training quite enjoyable. It’s nice to get a bit of fresh air now and then, even if it is freezing outside,” he said. “It makes you feel so much better is lots of ways. I feel like I’ve lost a bit of weight and I feel more awake and ready for the day ahead.”
An occasional gym goer, Michael’s aim was to complete the marathon in no more than 4½ hours, a tall order for anyone who hasn’t run regularly before.
Michael completed the marathon in 5 hours, 14 minutes and 22 seconds, an amazing achievement for someones first marathon.
Today (Monday 29th April), the day after the marathon, Michael had the pleasure of meeting Eliud Kipchoge, the current marathon world record holder and 4 x London marathon champion - a nice way to round off your first marathon!
