Southbank Tower

Southbank Tower

As part of this residential development to convert an existing tower from the Brutalist school of architecture in south east London, O’Keefe’s scope of works included the excavation to the north east and west basements areas of the site in a top down fashion.

Project Overview:

  • Client: CIT

  • Scope of Works: Substructure

  • Value: £1.5m

  • Project Start Date: January 2014

  • Location: Southbank Tower, London SE1

The site was partially occupied by the demolition contractor when O’Keefe commenced their programmed works. Logistical challenges of working in an urban restricted environment were exacerbated by working around the existing structure, the methodology of top down construction, having to excavate through relatively small mole holes and challenging ground conditions. 25,000m was removed from site with the largest excavator being a 21T with clamshell.
